Bio Extra

Along with Coogan at right back, McDowall, at inside right, made his only known appearance in September 1888, in front of 3,000 at Blackstoun Park, home to Abercorn. Former Thistle goalie Andrew Duff was recently returned from a year-long stint on the Southampton shipyards and he was squaring up to his old mates for the first time. Although “the first half-hour was splendidly contested” (GH), things took a turn for the worse, and the much weakened Thistle were 4-0 down early in the second half. 2 quick goals (the first from Hislop) gave the score a bit more respectability, but Abercorn scored again soon after, denting the prospects for McDowall.
