Matthew Ferguson |
![]() Matthew Ferguson was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The forward probably joined Thistle in 1887 or 1888, having most recently been with St Mirren. He made his first known appearance on Saturday, 7th April, 1888, in a 3-2 friendly defeat at home to Dumbarton Athletic. That day, Matthew became a member of our scoring debutant's club. He scored the last of his 15 known goals on Saturday, 2nd November, 1889, in a 6-3 defeat away to Queen's Park in the Glasgow Cup. He played his last known game for the club on Saturday, 1st February, 1890, in a 7-2 friendly defeat at home to Methlan Park, having appeared for the Thistle on at least 27 occasions. His club-list included St Mirren and Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when Matthew died. *

Historian's note: Not to be confused with the Bellshill-born Matthew Ferguson (died 1902) who played for several years at Sunderland. Our Matthew Ferguson emigrated to Japan in 1890!
