A free-kick was touched back to Reading who fired home from 25 yards (16). Stanway doubled the lead (45+11) with a top corner swerving shot. Queens showed a bit more positivity and hit the bar but Lets'osa crossed for Chalmers (74) then returned the compliment (78) before McBeth's back post header (90+2). Could have been more. Thistle found the woodwork twice.

Red and yellow jerseys swarmed all over their black and white counterparts and PADDY READING typified the attacking approach, his heat map heavy in the opposition half. Was a handful, linked well with teammates, got good crosses in, and scored a goal-of-the-season contender which set the match tone. Also switched positions seamlessly throughout, great team player.

Partick Thistle showed that the ‘West End is the Best End’ as they took the honours in the Glasgow Derby with Queen’s Park at The Wyre Stadium at Firhill with a 5-0 scoreline. The Jags’ starting XI was the same as the one that started last week at Kirkcaldy however there were changes on the bench with Alex Samuel available after injury and Che Campbell taking a place for the first time in the William Hill Championship this season.

The visitors kicked off and after an early foray towards the home goal it was Thistle that created the first chance when the ball was slipped to Tony Watt who turned and hit a shot goalward only for his effort to be blocked. Aidan Fitzpatrick was the next to have an attempt however his seventh minute effort to find the far corner flashed wide. Seven Wealth Player of the Month for October Oisin Smyth caught the eye in the opening ten minutes with a mix of clever passing and deft flicks however they did not lead to an attack on the Queen’s Park goal. With quarter of an hour played Smith found Fitzpatrick on the left and he slipped a ball across for Watt who teed up Ben Stanway with Charlie Fox sliding into block. The opening goal was only delayed a minute and what a goal it was. A training ground move free-kick was knocked forward to Stanway on the 18 yard line and he touched the ball back to PADDY READING some 25 yards out and he sent first time left foot shot rocketing low into the net. After Chalmers had sent an effort wide the game was halted by referee Graham at the insistence of Watt after visiting defender Charlie Fox collapsed at the side of the pitch in obvious discomfort. Play was stopped for several minutes to allow Fox to receive treatment before the big Englishman was stretchered off to applause from both sets of fans.

The game restarted with both sets of players required to refocus with Fox’s replacement, Rocco Friel, cautioned quickly for a trip on Fitzpatrick. Josh Clarke showed that he was very much alert on 42 minutes as he leapt to his left to tip away a Ross McLean cross that was in danger of sneaking in at the far post with McLean’s next involvement seeing him pick up a yellow card for fouling Smyth after he looked to break. Luke McBeth was next in the book for a challenge on Josh Fowler with most fans in the ground perplexed that a challenge on Smyth had gone unpunished seconds earlier. Logan Chalmers looked to have unlocked the Spiders defence in added on time with a diagonal pass from right to left only for Calum Ferrie to race out of his penalty box to clear. Ten minutes into added on time Thistle grabbed a second and it was every bit as special as the first. Watt won the ball just inside the visitors’ half and moved forward before passing to Fitzpatrick who carried on up the pitch before the ball was slipped to STANWAY. The Thistle midfielder had options on his right and left however he looked up and curled home a 20-yarder high past Ferrie to double Thistle’s lead.

That was to be Stanway’s last involvement as he replaced by Kyle Turner at the start of a second half that nearly saw Ts’oanelo Lets’osa add a third within seconds however Ferrie got down low to save. Turner came within inches of scoring on 50 minutes when Watt delicately created space for a cross that the replacement met six yards out with the only combination of Ferrie and the bar denying him. McPherson looked to emulate his full-back partner Reading by scoring from distance on 55 minutes however his 25-yard effort failed to find the target. As Partick Thistle looked again to move further in front Watt looped in a 20 yard that just went over. On 65 minutes Clarke showed that his concentration was still spot-on as he rose to tip over an effort from the edge of the box from Tyrece McDonell with the visiting substitute out of luck again seconds later as another long-range effort smacked off the cross bar.

Ferrie had to move to his right to dive and push away a Turner drive and then the shot-stopper denied substitute Alex Samuel in a similar manner to Turner as he pushed his header onto the bar. Just as the hosts were beginning to think a third was not coming it arrived and a fourth did shortly afterwards. On 72 minutes Lets’osa skipped free on the right-hand side of the Queen’s Park box and rolled the perfect ball across the six-yard line for CHALMERS to side-foot home to secure the points. Three minutes later the duo combined again to score a symmetrical goal with Chalmers bearing down the left and picking out LETS’OSA who knocked it over the line for a fourth. Thistle did not settle for four with Ferrie denying Turner for the umpteenth time with a diving save and then McBeth rode through four challenges to get a view of goal only to see his parting shot go off target. A fifth did arrive with last touch of the ball as McBETH got his goal when he rose to nod in a Stevie Lawless cross following a corner.

I’m really pleased, I think it’s always important when you lose a game, you respond in the right way obviously, and a lot’s went our way this year. It was a kick in the teeth last week, but we have to take our medicine and get on with it, so it was important that we prepared the right way. We kind of came off the load this week a wee bit and took things down a bit, because three games in a week took its toll in the third game, but I thought the boys were better for it today, I thought they looked real sharp, [showed] real hunger, controlled the majority possession, and I think, especially here, that’s something we always want to do. I thought the nature of the goals were magnificent and it probably could have been more. In training we’ve identified how good Paddy is at striking the ball. In training he’ll score time and time again, but he never really gets the opportunity. Again, it was something we identified and we worked it well. It takes courage to work something like that, quite intricate, instead of just putting it in the box. But I thought even the flip side, the second half, the quality of our goals were really good as well. A lot to be pleased about, lots of efforts on goal and great intensity.

QP manager Sean Crighton (speaking to The Sun):

I went and saw Charlie and he’s naturally devastated but the character of the guy he’s actually more gutted for me and the club than himself. It was a really sore result, sore performance and a sore day for Charlie. It’s his other knee. The first diagnosis is it could be a dislocation, we’re not 100 percent sure, he’s in a lot of pain. It’s a devastating day for everybody. We need to rally round Charlie, get a reaction next week as it’s about doing it for him.
