Defences were mostly on top. Thistle showed more energy and attacking intent than of late but still lacked a clinical finish. Fitzpatrick was prominent but was the recipient of "special treatment". Livingston finished the stronger. But for a magnificent backwards header off the line by Ashcroft in added time it could have been a defeat.

TTA man of the match

It was redemption day for LEE ASHCROFT in the eyes of many as the experienced central defender showed what he's all about. That 'don't mess' head band spoke volumes as he won everything in the air and cleared his lines effectively; the magnificent headed clearance in stoppage time saved a point.

Partick Thistle and Livingston played out a dull goalless draw at Firhill in the Scottish Championship. Kyle Turner and Harry Milne both spurned opportunities for the hosts in the opening 25 minutes, but there was just one shot on target for either side in a first half that lacked quality and imagination. After the break, Livingston went close through Stephen Kelly's curling effort and Brian Graham fired wide for Thistle. Liam Sole had a chance to win it for Livingston at the death, but his goal-bound shot was blocked by Lee Ashcroft. David Martindale's side remain unbeaten in the league and are third in the table - three points behind Ayr United and Falkirk - while Partick Thistle are sixth.

Partick Thistle manager Kris Doolan (speaking to Jagzone):

I don't think there's any bad points in the Championship, let's be honest. It's another clean-sheet which is good. Obviously we want to pick up all 3 points, but Livingston are a good side. I think you can see they've just come out of the Premier League, they're well organised and they move the ball about well. I thought both defences were big and strong, it was almost a game of defences being on top. First half we've thrown everything at them, it's just turning that dominance into goals is the tricky part. Every game is a fine margin, it can be small margins that turn it in your favour and if we score when we're on top then the game is maybe different but the good thing is we still looked strong defensively.

The Lions could have won the match, as substitute Cristian Montano infused some much-needed creativity, setting up a late Liam Sole effort that was headed off the line by Lee Ashcroft. Ryan McGowan headed agonisingly wide of the upright in stoppage time, leaving the game goal-less, and Martindale dispirited, ahead of Tuesday’s crunch rivalry match at Falkirk, as he told Ian Steven for the Livingston FC website:

I’m not really happy with how we played, if I’m honest. I thought it was blood and guts. We defended very, very well. They asked a lot of questions of us. A lot of balls into the box. They were pretty direct, first contacts, second contacts, and pressed us well, but I thought we had the better chances in the game. I think we’ve got to look after the ball a wee bit better. I think they’ve been sloppy.
