On an afternoon of annoying refereeing, Stanway was sent-off for a second yellow (simulation, 25) leaving Thistle up against it for over an hour. They defended resolutely and Roberts pulled off a string of excellent saves, but too much space was afforded and a 30-yard screamer (58) was the punishment. Debutant Ablade squeezed home a Turner pass (76) but too much space (again) allowed Falkirk the winner (83) from 12 yards.

TTA man of the match

It was another high-octane performance from HARRY MILNE who was just as likely to be blocking them on the line as terrorizing Falkirk in the final third. Oh, to be able to clone him.

Brad Spencer’s late goal extended Falkirk’s perfect start to the Championship season with victory over 10-man Partick Thistle. Thistle played over an hour a man down after Ben Stanway’s dismissal following two bookings, the second of which for diving. Liam Henderson broke the deadlock in spectacular style just before the hour mark, his stunning 25-yard strike flying into the top corner. Thistle battled back bravely and substitute Terry Ablade poked home from 10 yards to draw the visitors level. Partick keeper Myles Roberts produced some stunning stops but was powerless to prevent Spencer smashing home the winner seven minutes from the end. Falkirk remain in second place in the table, while Thistle drop to ninth.

Partick Thistle manager Kris Doolan (speaking to Jagzone):

It felt as if everything was going against us, we've got 7 players missing and then you lose somebody after 20 minutes, but one thing we can't question is the effort and the work-rate, especially down to ten. Nobody lay down and everybody worked their socks off and that's what supporters appreciate, you seen them staying with us right to the end. Although it's a defeat - and it's a sore one to take for us - we have to take the positives out of it. I thought Terry coming on showed why we brought him up. He's got real pace to burn and I think when you put him on a big pitch like Firhill with space in behind, he's going to gallop into that space. It was a really composed finish and at that point we're back into the game. I just think the second goal is a bit of tiredness down the sides, we've done so well to defend the wide areas up until that point. Their two goals are good finishes. We'll get through this and there's a long season ahead. Coming back to Firhill against Queen's Park we'll have a game plan, we'll freshen up and we'll have go to try and win three points.
