	Whilst Ross Docherty is widely credited with Thistle's goal, it's debatable whether his header was the definitive touch. From the video camera angles, it's unclear whether his header was even on target and, for sure, the ball did take a dramatic trajectory change before it hit the back of the net, due to a deflection from either Thistle's Connor Murray (#17) or Kilmarnock's Lee Hodson (#2). However, with the situation being so unclear, we stick the Ross Docherty goal in line with the majority consensus.

A good start by depleted Thistle saw Alegria and Tiffoney go close but an unsavable free-kick left found the top corner (22). Killie were in control after that and a ball up the left was fired home by Lafferty for his 2nd (46). A late rally saw Docherty touch in a corner (87). Much better of late but top club Killie always had that bit more to offer.

Kyle Lafferty scored twice as Kilmarnock beat Partick Thistle to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Championship to four points. The striker netted with a superb first-half free-kick before firing the second moments after the break to secure a fourth straight win. Depleted Thistle had been on top before the home side's opener. But Ross Docherty's late reply could not prevent a fourth defeat in a row for Ian McCall's fourth-top side. However, Raith Rovers' 3-3 draw away to second-top Arbroath means Thistle's advantage over the Kirkcaldy side is now only two points. Kilmarnock deserved their win but had to survive a tense finale in which they had goalkeeper Zach Hemmings to thank for a stoppage-time save.

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes:

I thought we did deserve to win. My keeper’s not had a save to make until the dying embers of it. There wasn’t a lot happening first half except a piece of magic from Kyle [Lafferty]. We were punished for a bit of slackness when we conceded and that made it the type of game it was for the last few minutes. Today is a lesson for the team that on another day it might have cost us. With five games to go, we need to learn a lesson from how we finished the game today, not the performance beforehand. Kyle came here and he’s on the same wages as everyone else, he didn’t ask for anything, his demands weren’t anything bigger than what the club pay. We told him that we wanted him to come to try and help us and he had offers from one Premiership club and two or three other Championship sides, who potentially could have paid a wee bit more but we stuck to our guns and we told him he importance of him playing his part for us. He felt a bit of an obligation from the last time he was here in the team that got relegated and he has been first class for me. I am absolutely loving working with the boy!

Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall:

I felt we were very unlucky to be losing at half time. I didn’t think there was much in the game and maybe we shaded it but it is terrific quality from the free kick which gives Kilmarnock the lead. Kyle Lafferty has that in his locker and it’s a moment where you have to put your hands up and appreciate the quality. Then 30 seconds into the second half they get a second goal. It was a good goal from a Kilmarnock perspective but from us it was really, really poor. We gave away possession cheaply and they punished for it and I think that gave us a little bit of shock. I thought we weathered the storm in the 20 minutes after that goal really well but we stayed strong and got a goal back. I just wish we had scored it about 10 minutes earlier because that would have made it quite interesting. The ball just didn’t drop for us in the box.
