Penrice's block spun beyond Wright for a freak opener (13) then Graham's saved pen denied Thistle a leveller (15). Falkirk hit the post nearing h-t. A better 2nd half saw Docherty waste a good chance (47) but 2 close-in headers by Cardle and Graham (66 and 68) made it 2-1. Falkirk scored from close in (88).

The two League One promotion hopefuls looked content to feel each other out in the opening stages but the visitors took the lead in the 13th minute in bizarre fashion. Callumn Morrison was credited with the goal but the Bairns attacker benefitted from a huge slice of luck, as after a coming together on the edge of the area with James Penrice, the ball looped into the top left corner beyond a helplessly wrong-footed Kieran Wright. The Jags had a chance to level things up almost immediately when the marauding Ryan Williamson was brought down in the box but Graham’s spot-kick was beaten away by a diving PJ Morrison. Thistle dominated the ball for the remainder of the half but Falkirk continued to threaten on the break and Anton Dowds struck the post just prior to the interval following an error in possession from Williamson.

The hosts started the second half with purpose but initially struggled to find the breakthrough with Ross Docherty and Brian Graham both squandering chances following set-pieces. An equaliser was coming, though, and it eventually arrived in the 66th minute, with Joe Cardle nodding home from a Graham knockdown. Ian McCall’s men weren’t content with a point, though, and they struck again two minutes later, when Graham headed a volleyed cross from the outstanding Cardle beyond a scrambling Morrison. Thistle weren’t able to close out the win, though, and substitute Telfer hammered home from inside the area in the 88th minute to earn his side a valuable point.

It’s frustrating to drop points to a late goal again but I thought the boys did well today and I was proud of the performance. To fall behind so early to a freak goal like that one was tough but we came back into it and were on top for long spells. We had a couple of good chances at one-nil with the penalty and one that Ross Docherty had from four yards out but we kept pushing and got our goals deservedly. I have to give Joe Cardle a mention, it was a brilliant performance by him today with his goal and assist and that’s the sort of creativity we need every week. After half-time I felt we dominated large parts of it, moving the ball around the pitch well and we were the better team by far. Docherty has that chance from Joe Cardle’s free-kick that he should have buried but then we get our goals and they were two well-worked goals, I thought. We got a little bit nervy towards the end in the final 10 or 15 minutes as we try to see it out. They started to control a bit more of the ball and got the goal which comes from a deflected cross but it’s a good finish to be fair. As I’ve said already, we had big moments in the game and if we take our chances such as the penalty and some of our clear-cut opportunities either side of half-time then we could have been out of sight by the point they equalised.
