Thistle couldn't match a fine St Johnstone side (managed (haunted?) by O Coyle). A Donnelly penalty (77) was the only crumb of comfort. Saints coasted and scored at will (1, 6, 43, 64 and 90). “Thistle going backwards as visitors take it easy” (GH). One to forget quickly and move on. “I am very angry” (Campbell).

A hat-trick from Jason Scotland inspired St Johnstone to an emphatic victory over Partick Thistle. The striker fired home from 18 yards after just 75 seconds and connected with a Willie McLaren cut-back five minutes later. Scott Milne lobbed Kenny Arthur following a Martin Hardie pass and then volleyed home the fourth goal. Simon Donnelly hit back from the spot after Bryn Halliwell felled Graham Gibson before Scotland's third.
