A pleasing performance away to Premier Division St Mirren. Donnelly opened the scoring with a well placed shot (25). Fine play by Donnelly then set up Brady for the 2nd (38). St Mirren improved in the second half and reduced the deficit from 18 yards (48) then Arthur had some fine saves to prevent an equaliser.

JOLLY JAGS BLOW SAINTS AWAY. PARTICK THISTLE deserved their win but St Mirren won't be panicking despite the fact they get down to serious SPL business at Inverness this Saturday.

Considering the humidity at Love Street both sides opted for a somewhat casual start. Nevertheless, chances were created at either end before Simon Donnelly opened the scoring for Thistle in 26 minutes. Donnelly collected a ball from Graham Gibson, rounded a Saints defender and shot clinically beyond Chris Smith from six yards. St Mirren fans were waiting for their team to respond but it was Jags who scored again through Darren Brady in 39 minutes with a 20-yard shot. St Mirren did step up the pace but they never really tested keeper Kenny Arthur.

John Sutton took over from Stewart Kean after the interval and before he had broken sweat he pulled a goal back for Saints in 47 minutes with a sweeping low shot from the edge of the box. His boss Gus MacPherson obviously wasn't too enamoured at what he had seen in the first half and sent on four more subs with Sutton after the break. The sweeping changes made a difference, with the Paisley side looking more positive. And they were unfortunate not to have equalised in 60 minutes when sub Billy Mehmet touched an indirect free-kick from about 15 yards out to Kirk Broadfoot whose shot glanced the bar on the way over.
