Over-physical Montrose took the lead (3) from a parried shot by Tuffey and Thistle struggled. A much-changed side in the second half played better. Boyd levelled (50) then Gibson (B) scored from 30 yards (58) and McConalogue got the 3rd (60) with a cool finish when set up by Keoch.

JAGS RELISH LINKS EFFECT. PARTICK THISTLE hit back from going a goal down by slamming three past Montrose in nine second-half minutes at Links Park. Scott Boyd cancelled out Calum Watson's opener before strikes from Billy Gibson and Stephen McConalogue sent the Third Division side reeling.

The hosts grabbed the lead after only three minutes when Greig Henslee had a shot saved by Jonathan Tuffey and Watson drove home the rebound. Thistle went close in five minutes when a shot on the turn from McConalogue hit a post. Montrose nearly went 2-0 up in 15 minutes, with Andrew Rodgers sending a first-time volley just wide.

Thistle made four changes at half-time and it paid off seven minutes into the second half when Adam Strachan crossed for sub Boyd to volley home from close range. Thistle surged in front in 59 minutes when Gibson hammered a drive into the bottom corner from 30 yards. Two minutes later Paddy Keogh set up McConalogue who supplied a neat finish to wrap up the scoring.

Prior to the match Jags boss Dick Campbell snapped up defender John Robertson. The player, who was released by Hamilton on Wednesday, is delighted to be joining Thistle in the First Division. Robertson said: “They have a good squad and could challenge for promotion. I also believe this move is a good footballing decision.”
