Albion started the better and Arthur had to save a penalty to keep the scores level. Thistle improved and went close but the visitors' defence was sound. In the second half Santala hit the bar. Both teams pressed for a winner but none came. Little to enthuse over and a disappointing stalemate.

STIRLING PAY THE PENALTY. THIS stalemate means it's 11 years since Thistle won their opening league game. On 12 minutes keeper Kenny Arthur superbly tipped over a Stewart Devine howitzer then saved a 14th-minute penalty from Stephen Boyack after Paddy Connolly had been fouled. A Steven Nicholas effort, held by Stirling keeper Myles Hogarth, was Thistle's best effort before the break. Finn Jukka Santala, on loan from Rangers, replaced McConalogue for Jags after 57 minutes, and shot against the bar on 63 minutes. Nicholas should have grabbed a late winner but fired over on 88 minutes.
