2 defeats and a host of injuries later, Thistle (starting with 3 trialists) dominated the early stages of both halves but couldn't find the net. 2 goals (17 and 25) made for an uphill task in the second half. Thistle pressure came to nothing and 2 more goals gave Brechin their deserved win.

NEW boy Gary Bollan insists Brechin aren't going up to the First Division just to make up the numbers. The former Rangers and Dundee United full-back reckons City, who outclassed dismal Thistle, have enough experience in their ranks to make an impression in Division One. He said: “We want to finish as high up the league as possible. Last season Falkirk had a lot of experienced boys and they ran away with the league - experience is vital and we've plenty in our side.”

This fiery pre-season friendly saw Thistle boss Dick Campbell make a sad return to Glebe Park as brother Ian's side ran out comfortable winners. Midfielder Stuart Callaghan opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a superb volley from the edge of the box after Thistle failed to clear their lines. Then City stretched their lead in 25 minutes when striker Graham Gibson nodded home a Callaghan cross.

A bullet header from Scott Walker from Callaghan's free-kick made it 3-0 before Craig McEwan finished the rout, firing home Steven Hampshire's pass. Delighted Ian Campbell said: “We've had a great pre-season. Our experience showed against a young Partick side. I have a nice problem because I've a lot of competition for most positions so must decide on my starting line-up for when the real thing gets started in two weeks. I felt for Dick but they'll sort out their problems. I'm just concerned with Brechin and things are coming along well at the moment.”

Brother Dick said: “I came up to my old stamping ground and got a right doing. But pre-season is all about learning from your mistakes. We got buried for every error we made. We were well on top in spells but didn't take our chances - and City's experience told in the end.”
