Arthur's sloppy parry in 4 minutes let Queens in for ex-JAG Lyle to score the opener but there was no collapse this time as Oné (20) then an OG (37) gave Thistle a 2-1 lead at half-time. They survived a long spell of pressure in the second half then turned the tables and a 2nd OG (69) made it a comfortable win. Still 9th.

ADULTERY? CLEVER DICK GETS IT WRONG. JAGS racked up their first league win under new boss Dick Campbell albeit with a little help from Queens. The Doonhamers supplied two goals for the Jags with Eric Paton and David Craig the guilty men. But Thistle gaffer Campbell slammed their stuttering start and said: “We committed absolute adultery! It was a stupid goal to lose, but the spirit shown to come back was tremendous. It sets us up for the cup replay with Hearts and we'll certainly be going for it.”

Thistle got off to a terrible start when they went a goal down after only four minutes. Queens front man Willie Gibson drifted inside his marker and when keeper Kenny Arthur could only parry his shot ex-Jag Derek Lyle rammed the rebound high into the net. Shell-shocked Jags almost pulled it back when Spanish striker Juan Escalas found Kenny Milne who rattled a shot into the side net. Jags pressure paid off in 20 minutes. Andy Gibson saw a ferocious shot touched on to the bar by keeper Colin Scott but Armand One was first to the rebound to nod the ball home.

Fired up Thistle pressed for a second and got it nine minutes from the break. Derek Fleming floated in a deep free kick and Queens defender Craig, under pressure from Adrian Madaschi, glanced a header over his keeper into the net.

Queens tried to drag themselves back into the match and Gibson caused chaos when his deep free-kick picked out Lyle in 57 minutes but the Queens striker headed over from just six yards. Jags bounced back and One thundered in a shot from the edge of the box that keeper Scott did well to beat into the air. The tempo of the match was picking up and Eric Paton found Lyle whose net-bound header was deflected past for a corner. Queens keeper Scott then set up a route one raid with a huge kick out which sailed over Jags defence. Lyle was first to react and latched onto the ball at the edge of the box, zeroed in on goal and smacked in a shot which keeper Arthur tipped over. Queens made a complete mess of the corner when they tried to set up Paton Jags were sharp to break down the set piece and powered forward in numbers. Fleming swept the ball across goal and Paton headed the ball into his own net. Fleming then crashed in a free kick from 20-yards only to see keeper Scott smother the ball.

Sickened Queens boss Iain Scott lashed his side, saying: “We got in front then went to sleep. We were outfought and that's unacceptable. If it happens again players will be going out the door. It was our worst defensive performance for two years - it was a joke.”
