It was a tentative first half with few chances. A livelier second half saw Escalas and McLaren go close with Thistle well on top but against the run of play Queens scored 10 minutes from time with an unchallenged header from a corner. It was Thistle's 1st defeat in Dumfries since Nov 1962 (19 competitive matches).

A goal by central defender David Craig 10 minutes from time gave Queen of the South victory over troubled Partick Thistle at Palmerston Park. The game had started brightly but deteriorated into a midfield struggle with defences very much on top. Queens goalkeeper Colin Scott pulled off a couple of tremendous saves to keep Thistle at bay. A series of corners during Queens' pressure ended with Craig popping up to score the winner with 10 minutes left.
