Hamilton. Panther shot home from just inside the 18-yard box (16) and Hinds ran on to a long ball up field (40). The half-time lead should have been the platform for a big win but although Thistle went close several times it was Rovers who scored in a rare attack (64) but they never looked like adding to it.

ROVERS AND OUT BUT THISTLE SUFFER SCARE. ALBION ROVERS gave First Division high-fliers Partick Thistle a fright at New Douglas Park. Derek Whyte and Gerry Britton's men were on easy street after two first-half goals but Graeme McCall struck with 25 minutes left to ensure a nervy finish for the Jags. Emmanuel Panther opened the scoring when he lifted the ball expertly over Rovers keeper Chris Fahey after he had been teed up by Jamie Mitchell. Leigh Hinds then spurned a glorious chance to double the Jags' advantage when he ran through one on one with Fahey but the Rovers keeper reacted smartly to smother his close-range effort. However, the former Aberdeen striker made amends four minutes before half—time after he raced on to Andy Gibson's long clearance and rammed the ball high into the net. The Englishman should have put the tie beyond their Third Division opponents just 60 seconds into the second half but his lob sailed over the bar. And although McCall pulled one back, Rovers couldn't claim the equaliser.
