Thistle slowly took control but couldn't find their shooting boots. Leicester upped the pace on the hour and slack defending allowed an unmarked header to put them ahead. Gemmell and Howie went close then Leicester almost scored a 2nd on the break before a final chance of an equaliser was wasted.

In the first of two home friendly matches against sides that played in last season’s English Premiership, Thistle went down narrowly and rather undeservedly 1-0 to Leicester City. Thistle were the first of the two sides to get a glimpse of goal, and trialist Richard Pacquette nearly gave Thistle the lead with a shot from the edge of the box that brought out an excellent save from the Leicester keeper Pressman. Play moved quickly to the other end and Thistle were perhaps fortunate that Tommy Wright was less than accurate with his finish after finding himself in space inside the Thistle penalty box.

Pacquette again came close for Thistle with a shot from the edge of the box that, although off target, must have caused Pressman some anxiety. Derek Fleming too came close with a free kick and Willie Howie, who continued the good form that he showed towards the end of last season, had a shot fly just off target as the Thistle fans in the 1,940 crowd warmed to the performance that they were seeing. They were sadly denied the opportunity of seeing the impressive Pacquette in the second half as a hamstring injury kept him in the dressing room at half-time and subsequently out of the match with Fulham 48 hours later. Perhaps as a consequence of Pacquette’s absence, Thistle were less of a threat in the second half as they had been in the first. Willie Howie had a couple of efforts, but the game’s winning goal was scored by a Leicester City player, a Lee Morris cross being converted at the back post by Trevor Benjamin.
