Far from pretty, this was a robust, fighting display. Lilley shot Thistle into the lead when he was set up by Britton (31). There was more pressure from Aberdeen after the break but when a Burns shot was blocked, Hardie knocked in the loose ball for the 2nd (79). Aberdeen's late goal meant little.

DONS DOUBLE FOR PARTICK. A goal in each half from David Lilley and Martin Hardie helped Partick Thistle to a hard-fought win over Aberdeen at Firhill. It completed a double over the Dons for the Glasgow side - and for former Aberdeen defender Lilley, who scored the only goal of the game at Pittodrie. This time Lilley swept a low drive past Peter Kjaer after 32 minutes in a first-half dominated by the home side. Hardie popped up with 10 minutes remaining to seal the points and Leon Mike's goal was scarce consolation for a spirited fightback by the injury-hit Dons. Aberdeen were boosted by a good home draw with Rangers last Saturday, but Russell Anderson, Laurent D'Jaffo, Roberto Bisconti, Kevin McNaughton and Chris Clark were all out injured and Jamie McAllister began a two-match ban. Goalkeeper Pete Kjaer returned at the expense of David Preece and Patrizio Billio, Fergus Tiernan and Nicolas Fabiano were also in the starting line-up. After losing seven goals in two games, Thistle boss John Lambie made one change, striker Scott McLean coming in for Jamie Mitchell, who dropped to the bench.

It was the home side who started the game the brighter and nearly took the lead after two minutes when veteran Gerry Britton's hooked shot from 12 yards went inches wide. On one of the Dons' occasional breaks upfield, Darren Mackie's angled shot from 10 yards was blocked for a corner. But the home side dominated and in the 32nd minute eventually made the breakthrough. A Britton cross from the left evaded a clutch of players before Lilley fired a low shot from 14 yards into the corner of the net. The visitors were dealt another blow five minutes later when Kjaer went off injured and was replaced by David Preece. Aberdeen looked more positive in their approach after the break and came close in the 54th minute. Billio's snap shot nearly fooled goalkeeper Kenny Arthur, who scrambled the ball past the post for a corner. Aberdeen were camped inside the Partick half, but the home side broke clear to seal the win. Burns' cross from the left was headed goalwards by Lilley. But the defender's effort was blocked and, when it fell to Hardie, the midfielder had the easiest of tasks to score from close range. Mike reduced the deficit four minutes from time to set up a tense finish.
