2nd top Airdrie started the better and scored with a 25-yard screamer (22). Some excellent goalkeeping kept Thistle at bay as Airdrie sat in and invited Thistle to come on to them. The policy backfired and Burns (on his debut) scored with a deft chip at the far post (70). Britton's late header would have been a bit of a steal.

New Partick Thistle signing Alex Burns became an instant hero as he grabbed an equaliser in the top of the table clash with Airdrie. A point apiece in an entertaining game means Thistle continue to lead the First Division by three points from the Diamonds - with the Lanarkshire side having a game in hand. The visitors started the game well and almost opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Mark Roberts' shot was cleared off the line by Paul Deas. Deas then prevented another shot from sneaking in, but from his clearance the ball was collected by Craig McPherson and his 30-yard drive flew into the top corner of the net. The Jags pulled level after 70 minutes when a long searching pass from Alan Archibald found Burns coming in at the far post to slip the ball past the keeper.
