Lambie, in full highland dress, saw 3rd top St Mirren have the bulk of possession but they lacked an end product. Arthur saved a penalty (hand ball by Craigan, 64). The subs combined when Gibson's cross was headed home by Hardie (84) for the win but, on play, a draw might have been fairer. 2nd, 3 points off the top.

Martin Hardie scored with six minutes to go as victory stretched Partick's lead over third top St Mirren to 10 points. A bumper crowd witnessed a thrilling battle between the promotion rivals as St Mirren paid for a penalty miss from Steven McGarry. Both teams played attractive, flowing football as the game swung from end to end in the first half. Paul Walker went close for the second-top Jags after 20 minutes, but Saints goalkeeper Ludovic Roy stood up well to the shot and the ball cannoned off his feet. For St Mirren, Jamie McGowan and Paul McKnight both had blasts from distance, but goalkeeper Kenny Arthur was equal to their efforts. The second half continued in a similar vein and the opening goal looked likely in the 64th minute as St Mirren were awarded a penalty after Steven Craigan handled in the area. Arthur had other ideas, however, saving from McGarry. St Mirren brought on Ricky Gillies and former Arsenal star Christopher Wreh and there was a notable difference in the their firepower. But it was Thistle who made the breakthrough against the run of play in the 84th minute. Hardie neatly tucked away a superb cross from Danny Lennon.
