Both teams went close before Grady was red-carded (“raised his hands”, 36). 10-man Ayr had their chances but into the 2nd half it was Lennon who scored when he touched in a parried Britton shot (68). Walker took the ball round the keeper and prodded it in for the 2nd 2 mins later. Ayr hit the post late on.

Partick shattered Ayr's 10-month unbeaten home record with a win, courtesy of a clinical second-half display at Somerset Park. Ayr were given an uphill struggle when James Grady was sent off after 37 minutes for raising his hands to Jamie Dolan. Thistle took full advantage and struck after 68 minutes when Gerry Britton crossed for Danny Lennon to fire home. The game was over two minutes later when Paul Walker waltzed through the Ayr defence and doubled the Jags lead. Ayr created few chances as they struggled with ten men but did hit the woodwork late on through an effort through Paul Sheerin.
