Arthur was back in goal, Klein was freed. A McLean shot was parried to Fleming who scored (14). Raith (Novo) missed a sitter from 6 yards (50) then the game got towsy with 3 Raith players booked in 10 mins. They got a simple equaliser (58). Britton's deflected winner (70) was a fluke but it was a deserved win.

THISTLE DO ME NICELY; Every Game a Bonus for Scott. SCOTT PATERSON has revealed how the prospect of never kicking a ball again is inspiring him to the best form of his footballing life. Paterson has been a rock in the heart of Thistle's defence all season and was again the outstanding player as the Jags narrowly but controversially edged all three points against raging Raith. His stunning displays have even seen him compared with former Scotland centre-half Alan Hansen but, although Paterson is flattered with the link, he admitted that an injury nightmare and a lengthy spell out of the game is the only tonic he needs to enjoy every minute he can now. The defender, once signed by Greame Souness at Liverpool, has been dogged with back and knee problems in recent years and it seems a fear these could return is behind his sparkling form. Paterson said: “I am just playing every game as if it is my last - it's as simple as that. I left Carlisle because I was out of contract and injured and I really was struggling for fitness. My agent Allan Evans took me to Morton then Ally Maxwell gave me a three-month deal. I managed to get some games and that was exactly what I needed. Now I'm just happy to be back playing regularly. It's great to get a run of games after what I've been through and I am enjoying it.” Saturday's Man of the Match said: “People keep going on about me being the new Hansen which would be fine if I was 19 but I'm 29! I played with him in Stevie Nicol's testimonial though.”

The victory came after a dubious winner from Gerry Britton. Derek Fleming had given the Jags an early lead which was cancelled out by Andy Smith on the hour. But just as the visitors seemed to be getting a grip Britton, who looked in an offside position, stuck out his foot to deflect a tame Scott McLean shot past the helpless Sammy Monin in 72 minutes.

Rovers boss Peter Hetherston said: “I am far from happy with their winning goal. If Gerry didn't get a touch and the shot had gone in then fine, but he did. The linesman says he didn't see the touch but the referee did, so why didn't he give the decision? I am very disappointed because we had done well to get back into the game and at 1-1 we certainly didn't look like losing it.”

Jags boss John Lambie said: “We should have sewn it up but Britton and Fleming both missed chances. We got a break for the winner and three points is great.”
