A much-changed Thistle side took the lead just before half-time when McLean pounced on a fumbled back-pass (42). Despite being in control for most of the match there were no more goals. Ballymena almost earned a draw when they hit the bar in the last minute.

SCOTT McLean's second goal in three days earned Partick Thistle a 1-0 win over Ballymena United at the Showgrounds last night. McLean, who was on target against Glentoran on Saturday, struck on 42 minutes. New boy Craig Letson almost equalised on 80 minutes, but his shot crashed off the crossbar. United now meet Coleraine at Ballymena Showgrounds tomorrow night.
