The 18-game unbeaten league run came to an end. It was end to end stuff then ex-JAG English scored with a volley (13). Thistle had a shot kicked off the line and keeper Gow (him again) proved to be the man of the match (again). Thistle inexplicably fell away and conceded another (76). A very poor second half.

Former Partick Thistle striker Isaac English helped bring the runaway Division Two leaders down to earth at Ochilview Park. Stranraer manager Billy McLaren this week conceded that his second-top side could not catch Thistle for the title. But goals from English and Colin McKinnon rekindled Stenhousemuir's own promotion hopes and suggested that the others are determined to make sure the championship is no foregone conclusion.

Partick Thistle manager John Lambie had given his side a 60-point target to ensure promotion. But they remain stuck on 53, 17 points clear of the chasing pack.

Partick were without influential wing-back Alan Archibald, with former Airdrie stalwart Sandy Stewart deputising. Stenhousemuir had suspension worries, with Jimmy Fisher, Brian Donald and Alan Blaikie all banned, while both Paul McAnenay and John Gibson were injured.

The home side were penned back for most of the first period. But the Warriors were always dangerous on the break and opened the scoring in the 30th minute.

Chris Jackson crossed into the middle and English's scissors kick beat Kenny Arthur from 12 yards for his 15th goal of the season.

Martin Hardie blazed over the home crossbar from four yards and goalkeeper Garry Gow blocked another close-range effort from the same player. But the home side came close just before the break when an angled Scott Miller snap-shot hit the Thistle crossbar.

Brian Fairley's men were much more in control in the second period. When McKinnon glanced a near-post header from a Nicky Henderson corner into the net after 76 minutes, there was no way back for the visitors.
