Lennon hit the post twice in the 1st 5 minutes but it was 2nd bottom Albion who took the lead (21) after passing up several good chances. Thistle were denied a penalty for hand ball before Lennon scored, set up by Hardie, (64). He went close with a late header but resolute Albion held on for a point.

10 POINTS CLEAR BUT LAMBIE'S STILL RAGING. THISTLE edged a step closer to the First Division despite being held to a draw by struggling Albion. Stranraer's home defeat by Queen's Park means the Jags are now 10 points clear at the top. But that was of scant consolation to Thistle boss John Lambie who said: “I know we've gone another point clear of Stranraer but I'm a greedy bandit and we should have gone even further ahead. I know Stirling sat in to make it tough for us but in terms of possession we totally dominated. If you don't put the ball in the back of the net you won't win and we didn't show enough imagination in trying to get in behind them.”

Even Danny Lennon, who saved Thistle's blushes with a second-half equaliser, couldn't escape Lambie's wrath. Lennon twice missed chances in the opening five minutes and Lambie said: “Danny's shots were like penalty kicks because on each occasion he only had the goalkeeper to beat.”

Lennon made amends when he latched on to Martin Hardie's pass after 64 minutes and cracked his side level. But Lennon, too, was disappointed with the result. He said: “You could see from the outset they came here to defend but we should have had enough to break them down. To be honest, this result feels like a defeat because we've set ourselves standards this season. But I am sure Stranraer will be more disappointed because they failed to capitalise on us slipping up.”

Albion went in front after 21 minutes when an Ian McAulay free-kick was headed home by Ally Graham. From then on the visitors put up the shutters, frustrating Partick who found it difficult to create chances. Thistle should have been awarded a penalty after 54 minutes but referee Eddie Mack failed to spot a deliberate hand ball by Stirling's Kevin Gaughan. And although Lennon eventually broke through, the Albion rearguard bravely held on for a point.

The share of the spoils was welcome news for beleaguered boss Ray Stewart. He said: “We were under a lot of pressure for the whole 90 minutes and we got a bit of a doing. But everyone worked hard and I've got to be delighted. We don't have the number of experienced players as Partick do so to come here and defend well was pleasing.”
