A bright start saw Lindau, Moore and Hardie go close but after 15 minutes Thistle faded and Arbroath scored with a free header (24). Doubtless “encouraged“ by the half-time team-talk, Thistle woke up and after a few half chances, Lennon scored from 18 yards (59). Neither side took their chances after that.

BROWNLIE BLANKS OUT CUP CHAOS. ARBROATH boss John Brownlie was relieved the club's Scottish Cup fiasco did not undermine their league form. The Gayfield side approached the match amid fears they could be booted out of this season's Tennent's Scottish Cup after fielding two suspended players in last week's first-round win over Montrose. But they produced a fine performance to earn a share of the points against high-flying Partick Thistle. SFA chiefs will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to decide Arbroath's punishment but Brownlie praised his men for staying focused on the job in hand on Saturday. He said: “It's been a hard week for the club and I think we came out of this game with a lot of credit. Our commitment was excellent and we played really well particularly in the first- half, which we dominated. The goal we conceded in the second half was a bad one from our point of view and that was the most disappointing aspect. Our keeper is blaming himself but he made a great save in the last minute to ensure we got a point.”

Arbroath started positively and George Rowe headed them in front in the 24th minute. Kevin Fotheringham flighted over a great free-kick from the left and Rowe nodded past Thistle keeper Kenny Arthur. However, the Jags showed the battling qualities which have taken them to the top of the Second Division and their endeavour eventually paid off when experienced midfielder Danny Lennon levelled in 59 minutes. Peter Lindau slipped the ball to Lennon 25-yards from goal and his shot somehow crept in at goalkeeper Craig Hinchliffe's right-hand post. Hinchliffe went some way to redeeming himself with a superb injury-time stop from Scott McLean.

Partick boss John Lambie was disappointed not to have come away from Gayfield with all three points. He said: “We did enough in the second-half to merit a victory. A draw is not a bad result here because it is never an easy place but in football you're always greedy and are looking to take the three points.”
