Honours were even in the first half as both teams went looking for the opener. In the second half First Division Livingston attacked more and Thistle were restricted to hitting them on the break. Substitute Ex-JAG Britton scored with a head-flick (73) and the 2nd was side-footed home in injury time.

LIVVY LATE SHOW IS BRITT SPECIAL. LIVINGSTON snatched victory at rain-lashed Firhill after a late, late show last night. Goals from Gerry Britton and Barry Wilson in the last eight minutes gave the First Division title favourites victory against a Partick Thistle side which battled all the way.

Thistle made a storming start and after three minutes Derek Lyle found Stephen Docherty, whose angled shot was well saved by Neil Alexander at his near post. Livvy hit back and almost grabbed the lead in nine minutes. John Anderson powered in a header from a corner and Scott Crabbe touched the ball towards goal only for defender Willie Howie to smuggle it off the line. Former Falkirk striker Crabbe was a constant threat in the early stages and six minutes later he picked out David Hagen, who rolled the ball sideways for Jamie Dolan to power a 25-yard shot narrowly past. Thistle soon took command and David McCallum cracked a rising shot which sailed over in 16 minutes from just outside the box. One minute later Anderson was booked for bringing down Lyle as he went on a fine run. Anderson was again involved a couple of minutes later as Lyle took a pass from Howie and turned inside the defender before swerving a shot inches past the far post. Livvy rallied through Crabbe and he surged from the halfway line with a magnificent run run on and slide a shot past keeper Michael Brown but Jags skipper Stephen Craigan stabbed the ball beyond his own post for a corner. McCallum beat the Livvy defence in 27 minutes to a Jered Stirling cross and sent a neat flick beyond Alexander only to see the ball graze the right hand post. Thistle were firmly in the driving seat and Alexander did well to pluck a header out of the air from Robert Dunn on the half-hour mark. Livvy made a rare raid up front and almost broke the deadlock with a fine one-two between Derek Fleming and Crabbe at the edge of the box. Fleming burst into the danger area before crashing in a rising shot which skimmed the side netting on the way past. Two minutes later Hagen turned Docherty before whipping over a cross for Mark McCulloch to power in a header but Brown was well positioned to gather. Six minutes from the break Thistle again came close after a sizzling run by Howie on the right and after knocking the ball to Moore he dived in to meet the winger's cross and bullet a header inches past.

The second half was played in similar vein to the first and extra time looked on the cards until the introduction of former Thistle star Gerry Britton. Livvy put him on after 72 minutes for Crabbe and 10 minutes later he broke the deadlock with a brilliant glancing header from a cross by fellow sub Mark McCormick. Moments later Thistle's McCallum launched a ferocious shot from the right which scorched past Alexander but crashed back off the as the Jags fought desperately to save the tie. McCormick set up the second deep into injury time with a cutback from the right which Wilson fired low at goal and keeper Brown could only push the ball into the far side of the net.
