Thistle took the field in a new black strip. Hardie scored on half-time with a header close in and Mclean scored with a clinical finish (78). As might be expected it was a better all round performance as the players started to gel.

GOALS from Martin Hardie and Scott McLean helped Partick Thistle wrap up their pre-season tour of Ireland on a high note against Portadown. The Jags followed up their 0-0 draw with Derry City by registering a comfortable victory over their Irish League hosts at Shamrock Park. Hardie headed home a deep cross from the lively Derek McWilliams just before the break to reward Thistle for a commanding first-half display. Paul McGrillen then forced Portadown goalkeeper Tim Dalton into a reflex save as the Jags stepped up the pressure. After the break, Thistle struggled to find the same rhythm - due in no small part to the introduction of five new players from the bench. McLean, one of the substitutes, caused numerous problems for Portadown and it was his goal that sealed the win. He completed a three-man move with a powerful finish in the 75th minute of this lively encounter.
