Top of the league Clyde, fired up as usual against Thistle, were the better team and scored with a header at a free-kick just on half-time. Thistle improved in the second half however and Dunn, Craig and Lennon all went close as Thistle dominated possession but Clyde always looked capable at the back and got their win.

JAGS BOSS ALL SHOOK UP. MARK McLAUGHLIN'S goal a minute from half-time was enough to edge Clyde closer to the Second Division title. The result extends their unbeaten league run to 13 games and puts them 11 points clear at the top of the table. But it didn't go down well with Thistle manager John Lambie who was so incensed he refused to shake hands with opposite number Allan Maitland at the final whistle.

Kick-off was held up for five minutes to let in the 2781 crowd. Thistle, who needed a win, started aggressively and skipper Des McKeown was shown the yellow card for a late challenge on defender Bryan Smith after just two minutes. But it was the home side who made the first chance of the half when Mark McGraw flashed a header over the bar from a Jack Ross cross. Quinton Jacobs was showing the occasional flash of skill out on the left wing for the Jags but their hopes suffered a real setback midway through the first half when on-loan Ayr striker Peter Lindau limped off to be replaced by Derek Lyle. Clyde almost snatched the lead two minutes later but Jags keeper Kevin Budinauckas pulled off a brilliant one-handed save to keep out McLaughlin's net-bound header. A minute before the interval Clyde eventually made the breakthrough when Andy McLay swung over a free-kick from the left and McLaughlin rose between McKeown and Budinauckas to glance a header high into the net.

The second half was just seven minutes old when Danny Lennon curled in a free-kick that Clyde keeper David Wylie pushed round the post. Robert Dunn volleyed just wide, then Wylie had to look lively to fingertip an Albert Craig header over the bar. It was Lennon who so nearly rescued a point seven minutes from time but his 20-yard shot crashed back off the post with Wylie well beaten.
