Dutchman Rob Matthaei scored the only goal last night as Motherwell defeated Partick Thistle in a friendly, but he could not spoil the evening for the Thistle support as the Jags fans were boosted by a gritty fighting peformance from their side. The influence of recently appointed manager John Lambie was there for all to see, for he had warned his side before the start that they were playing for a contract for next season. Indeed, Lambie in his programme notes warned; “There is a lot of spadework to be done. We need to do something to get our supporters behind us again.”
