1,203 saw Thistle struggle against a well-drilled Albion side. They had the better of the few chances going. A free-kick was deflected off the wall past Arthur for the winner (73). Had Albion taken their chances it might have been worse. Promotion hopes fading fast, the Binos joined Thistle on 37 points.

STIRLING HALT MISERY AND STING JAGS. Stirling's Andy Paterson notched his first goal of the season as Albion ended Partick's faint promotion hopes at Firhill last night. Paterson's deflected strike from a 25-yard free kick in the 73rd minute was enough to give Albion their first win in eight league matches and send Thistle crashing to defeat in their fifth successive league match without a win. Stirling boss John Philliben said: “That's the best we have played in the league for six weeks and we should have won by more. But in the end it took a lucky deflection to give us all three points.” Thistle boss Tommy Bryce said: “We huffed and puffed all night and never really looked like creating anything. We couldn't pass the ball ten yards from one man to the next. Although we defended well, we've lost our last two matches 1-0 and it's results like those which have effectively killed off Partick Thistle's season.” Albion suffered a blow on the half hour mark when hitman Ally Graham was stretchered off and was replaced by Alan Provan. It was substitute Provan who almost gave the visitors the lead when he volleyed inches past the post just before the break. Paterson eventually got the breakthrough with his free kick which hit off Willie Jamieson in the Partick wall .
