Honours were even with chances missed at both ends in a brisk opening spell. Albion scored (simple header from a corner, 37). Bad luck and shocking finishing ensured it stayed that way until a fine goal (76) sealed the win. Thistle left the field to a chorus of boos. Little wonder given the dismal performance.

THISTLE had most of the pressure, but Albion gave them a lesson in finishing. The home side took an undeserved lead in 37 minutes when Steven Nicholas' corner was met by Ally Graham and the hitman headed past Stevie Ross. Three minutes later, Kevin Gaughan's passback beat Ross but the ball scraped the outside of the post. In 69 minutes Jags' Paul McDonald crashed a shot past Garry Gow but was ruled offside. However, Albion killed it 14 minutes from time when Alex Bone lifted the ball over the defence and netted from 12 yards.
