They dominated the first half without scoring but a settled Inverness side scored the only goal (57) when slack defending let in the unmarked scorer to shoot past the advancing Arthur. Frantic efforts to level came to nothing.

NOBODY said it was going to be easy, and relegated Partick Thistle quickly found how difficult life in the Second Division will be as they went down 1-0 to Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Firhill last night. Before a disappointing crowd of 2,000, Partick struggled to penetrate a well-drilled Caley side, who sealed the points in 57 minutes when the unmarked Barry Wilson ran on to a Charlie Christie pass to shoot past the advancing home keeper, Kenny Arthur, from eight yards.
