Houston scored from a Connell pass (11) and Thistle were well on top then an error by Kennedy almost led to an equaliser but the shot went wide. Several chances later Dunn extended the lead but Stenhousemuir scored just on half-time. Numerous changes by both sides made for a scrappy second half. An easy win.

NEW Partick Thistle manager Tommy Bryce made his debut as the Firhill club continued their impressive pre-season build-up with victory against third division Stenhousemuir last night. Bryce lined up after shaking off a calf strain and looked impressive in a solid all round display. The visitors drew first blood in 11 minutes when striker Scott Houston tucked the ball past the trialist keeper. Stenhousemuir should have equalised when a Kennedy error let in Alan Lawrence, after the veteran striker shot past the post from close range. Thistle added a second when Mark Donaghy found Robert Dunn with a perfect pass and his shot gave the keeper no chance. The trialist full back for Thistle almost made it three but was denied by a brilliant save when the goalkeeper touched over his powerful header from a Lochlan cross. Just before half-time, a Willie Watters cross was fired home by substitute Stevie Farrell to give the home side some hope. Talented winger Lauchlan brought out a good save as Thistle started brightly in the second half and defender Michael Hall had to clear off the line from a dangerous Houston cross. Both sides could have scored in the final few minutes with Gibson shooting just wide for the Warriors and Johnston heading just over for the Jags.
