Birth of the “SAVE THE JAGS”. Thistle had a good first half and led at half-time (Nicolson volley, 31). Airdrie equalised (48) with a simple ball over the top (Stewart looking suspect) then a pen (58) after a foul by the keeper put them ahead. Airdrie shut up shop and took the points. Thistle lacked the inspiration to break them down.

Partick Thistle chairman Jim Oliver jets back from the US this week to a plague of troubles. Thistle have debts of pounds £1.6million, an estimated weekly loss of £8,000 and a first-team pool of just 14 players. They are also second bottom of the First Division and suffered another disastrous result on Saturday. In fact, Oliver might almost be excused for wanting to jump on the next plane back to Florida. But club in crisis Thistle should have wrapped the game up in the first half. Iain Nicolson volleyed home an Andy Lyons cut-back after just six minutes but wasted chances and a second-half double from sub Brian McPhee saw the Diamonds take the points. The Airdrie striker was making the most of his last outing before starting a three-match ban. He levelled with a 46th-minute shot then converted a 58th-minute penalty after Paddy Connolly was fouled. McPhee hopes his form will keep him in boss Alex MacDonald's plans. He said : “That's four goals in two starts and I hope I'm still in the frame when the ban ends.”
