A poor game, littered with fouls. Hetherston only managed 45 minutes due to the treatment he got. Lyons' shot cleared off the line was Thistle's best chance. MacDonald gave the ball away and it set up Airdrie's 1st shot on target (56). Farrell went close 3 times before Gaughan levelled on his debut (header, 87).

In a match which had more injuries than goalmouth incidents, a draw was only fair; neither side deserved to win. Sandy Stewart set the tone in the 14th minute, when he injured himself challenging for a loose ball with namesake Andy. He was replaced by Paul Jack and, not long after that, the match ball also had to be substituted. That was hardly surprising, given the punishment it had received. Defenders bludgeoned clearances from one half to the other and both sides punted hopeful high balls in the general direction of lanky target men. Continental coaches would have recoiled in horror at the sheer Scottishness of the 31 minutes of lung-bursting, sinew-stretching action which elapsed before the fans saw some football.
