Life out of the top flight began with a rusty, disjointed performance that improved in the second half with a tap-in by Henderson and 2 from Smith (first to react when his shot was blocked then again from a cut-back (88). Turner almost scored from 45 yards but his shot went just wide.

Two-goal Tom Smith gave Partick Thistle a perfect start to their Irish tour. Nicky Henderson grabbed a 55th minute opener against Ards before Smith completed a comfortable 3-0 win.
