Lambie resigned. Murdo Macleod was appointed 14 August. Craig (16 & 77), McWilliams (34 & 61), McDonald (volley, 52), Pittman (free-kick, 58), and Curran (lob, 81) got the goals for an easy win against a young Berwick side who were out of their depth.

BERWICK Rangers made a spirited start against their Premier League opponents. Willie Irvine forced a comer then lobbed over, while Nicky Walker made an impressive save from Graeme Fraser. Thistle's first chance fell to Albert Craig but goalkeeper Neil Young smothered his shot. A clever head flick from Paul Rutherford opened up the Thistle defence but Martin Neil failed to control the pass.

Thistle struck in 16 minutes when a flowing move presented CRAIG with a chance and he crashed the ball home. Craig almost created a second for the visitors with a great pass for Derek McWilliams but he shot narrowly past. Fraser came closest for Berwick when he headed over from Forrester. A bad mistake by Neil Young from a passback gave McWILLIAMS a gift goal in 35 minutes. Partick's Rod McDonald scored after 52 minutes to put his side 3-0 up in their Coca-Cola Cup clash at Berwick.

The began began to turn into a rout when Young allowed a Steve Pittman free-kick to slip through his hands in 58 minutes. At the other end, a Kane free-kick hit the bar. Albert CRAIG headed a sixth in 77 minutes with Rangers defence bemused. Harry CURRAN made it seven in 81 minutes.
