6,571 saw Law red-carded for hand ball on the line (42) in a scrappy first half. Falkirk converted the pen. It was 2-0 (66) but Britton pulled 1 back with a delightful left foot curler (72). It was too little, too late however and Jamieson fired over from 8 yards on the final whistle. Falkirk moved off the bottom.

Ten-man Partick almost saved a point in a frantic last 20 minutes, but Falkirk hung on for a deserved win. Falkirk had to overcome the shock of losing left back Forbes Johnston, carried off on a stretcher after only 17 minutes with a leg injury. And the visitors opened the scoring just two minutes from the interval from the penalty spot. A goal-bound Scott Sloan shot was palmed away by fullback Bobby Law and he was promptly sent off for handball. Eddie May calmly converted the penalty. Tempers were becoming frayed and a minute later Falkirk’s Paul Smith was booked for a foul on Kinniard. Substitute Richard Cadette added a second in 67 minutes when he was quickest to react to a loose ball, and it seemed as if the outcome was settled. But 10-man Partick hit back to such effect that it was Falkirk whose defence was in disarray before the end. In 72 minutes Gerry Britton created a chance on the right and finished it off himself with a shot into the corner of the net. And the home side almost got an equaliser in the closing minutes when a Willie Jamieson effort flew just wide.
