The Little Report STOTT volleyed in a bouncing ball (3) and gave Thistle the lead but they failed to capitalise. It was 2nd top Hearts who took control and it was no surprise when they equalised when Ledgerwood spilled a fierce drive by Conn who beat McGowan and Kinnell to the loose ball (20). 1-1. Ledgerwood went off for 15 minutes for treatment to a cut above his eye. McGowan went into goal and Hearts did everything but score. They finally went ahead but only after Ledgerwood had returned - Conn making it 2-1 with a shot well out of his reach (36). Worse was to follow when a first-time shot by Wardhaugh beat Ledgerwood who didn't move (44). 3-1 for Hearts at half-time and the outlook looked bleak for Thistle. The 2nd half began with Hewitt in goal and Ledgerwood playing on the left wing. Sharp took Hewitt's place and Walker took over his role. Amazingly Thistle hit Hearts with 4 goals in 10 minutes. “Their attack developing as many spear points as their emblem” (Scotsman). LEDGERWOOD of all people scored with a left foot strike (60). 3-2. A Stott shot was stopped on the line by ex-JAG Parker (who was injured in the process and took no further part in the game) but WALKER nipped in to tap the loose ball home (61). 3-3. On 65 mins MacKenzie set up McCALLUM to score. 3-4. Davidson took a quick free-kick to MacKenzie who beat the full-back then crossed for STOTT to head home. 3-5. Hearts stormed back and put Thistle under severe pressure. A header by Bauld made it 4-5 (86) and signalled a frantic finish. A fierce Bauld shot was spilled by Hewitt and cleared then Conn scraped the post with virtually the last kick of the game.
