Walker trundled in a loose ball (47) but when Kinnell was fouled making a clearance the ball broke kindly for Rangers (49). Sharp and Walker came close in ET and Thistle deserved the lucky coin call.

Partick Thistle won the Glasgow Cup semi-final replay with Rangers last night on the toss of a coin. Extra time had to be played, and a punishing game ended with both teams as evenly matched as ever. A 25,000 crowd had plenty to shout about, particularly in the first half. In these forty-five minutes a cracking pace was set, and Thistle over it all had a territorial advantage. Brown was the busier goalkeeper and saved convincingly on several occasions. He had no chance, however, when Hewitt shot and O’Donnell helped the ball on with his head. Fortunately for Rangers, however, the ball hit the bar. Walker twice had chances for Thistle in the first half, but his shooting lacked direction. Rangers reorganised forward line did not function above average, and McGowan always kept close watch on Thornton at outside left.

Thistle opened the scoring two minutes after the interval when the ball broke to Walker from a Rangers defender, and the outside left trundled it home. In two more minutes Johnson equalised for Rangers. There was an element of luck for Rangers here, as it seemed that Kinnell was fouled by Williamson while clearing, and the ball went to Johnson, who shot strongly into the net. The punishing pace of the first half began to tell, and play for a long time was inclined to be ragged. The big thrills came close on the finish of the regulation 90 minutes, when Brown scooped the ball from Walker’s feet and Young twice intervened to stop shots by Walker and Sharp. In the extra time both sides strove hard for the winner that never came. By virtue of their slight advantage in attack, Thistle deserved the luck of the toss.
