O'Donnell gave Thistle the lead (7) but spirited Dumbarton just about deserved their 2-1 half-time lead. Thistle pushed Hewitt and Brown more into the attack and Dumbarton had no answer. O'Donnell made it 2-2 (50) then Chisholm (58) and Mathie (84) consolidated matters for a comfortable friendly win.

Thistle provided the football, Dumbarton the spirit, Sons’ reorganized team fought well enough to cross over on the lead. But Thistle’s second-half boost put them back on their heels. Hewitt and Brown went on to the attack with a verve which Sons could not counter. Play was practically confined to the home penalty area. O’Donell equalised in five minutes. Goals from Chisholm and Mathie merely consolidated matters.
