notes
  • There's contradiciton over a couple of Thistle's goals. For the second, is it Fraser or Simpson? Idrettsliv reports "Lambie lays out on the left to Torbet, who passes to Fraser who elegantly heads home." Fremfiden reads it as "Torbet, lays up a high ball in front of goal. The keeper starts quickly, his hand rushes forward to box the ball out, but Simpson had also started, calculated the keeper's movements and nods the ball past and in at the same time as the keeper's fist rushes forward - but then also past!". Onsdag Aften also reckons it was Simpson: "After 30 minutes of play, the second goal was scored when Simpson, after a pass from the far left, jumped high and headed the ball in." We therefore go with Simpson per that 2-1 majority. For the fifth, is it Simpson, Ballantyne or even Torbet? "Simpson then makes no.5 after the Scottish exhibition" says Idrettsliv, whereas Fremfiden reports "This time, for a change, it was not Simpson but inside left, Ballantyne who was the man." Onsdag Aften doesn't go into detail for all the goals, but in their summary they say that Simpson got 5 and that Torbet and Fraser got the others, the first time that we've seen Torbet quoted. Idrettsliv & Femfriden also state that Simpson got 5 in general, as does the 'Official History' book (which only lists 5 scorers). None of these papers lay out Thistle's goalscorers on a completely individual basis. It would seem the 5th boils down to the left wing (Ballantyne or Torbet?), and we've plumped for Ballantyne as Fremfiden is the source which seems most convinced on that one.
