Thistle led 2-0, 3-1 then 4-2 at half time (Ness, 2, McLeod (J) and Simpson) but the roof fell in after half-time and at 5-4 Paton was crocked. It was a triumph for Ayr's No 9 Smith who scored 5 goals. Ayr “displayed rare aptitude and cleverness in taking their chances” (GH). One to forget!
