“Despite the unfavourable conditions, it was a good game to watch” (GH). “This match ended in the defeat of the better all-round team” (SC). The match was played at Ibrox because of reconstruction work at Firhill. Motherwell played the better football and might easily have been 2 ahead at half-time. There was little change in the pattern of play in the second half until Lauder scored from a Salisbury corner (60) when the Motherwell keeper palmed the ball in his direction. Another breakaway resulted in McFarlane scoring the 2nd goal. Motherwell scored with a penalty and pressed for an equaliser but Thistle held on for the remaining 4 minutes. Overall, Thistle had Campbell to thank for keeping the scores level at half-time.
