notes
  • The SI reports that the crowd was 45,000 and that it was a record for the ground.
  • According to the Daily Record, the gates were closed at 42,000 leaving several thousand outside. With the crush and several, barriers broken leading to some injuries, the Directors decided to “go on at once” with their plans for a 60,000 stadium. The DR received letters complaining about the overcrowding (for greed) and on 12/1/1921 reported the club was donating £150 (around £6,000 today) between the three hospitals who had received the casualties.
  • Our 5-paper press average was 41,000.
