The SI reports that the crowd was 45,000 and that it was a record for the ground. According to the Daily Record, the gates were closed at 42,000 leaving several thousand outside. With the crush and several, barriers broken leading to some injuries, the Directors decided to “go on at once” with their plans for a 60,000 stadium. The DR received letters complaining about the overcrowding (for greed) and on 12/1/1921 reported the club was donating £150 (around £6,000 today) between the three hospitals who had received the casualties. Our 5-paper press average was 41,000.

The 41,000 crowd caused barriers to collapse and there were some injuries. The gates were locked before k-o. Rangers (1 defeat in 24) produced vintage football to lead 2-0 at half-time. Campbell and McMullan were outstanding and Thistle might have beaten anyone else on the day. Blair's second half pen was saved.
