teamline notes
  • Teamlines per SP.
  • OH lists McNaughton at the expense of Neil Harris. JL/DR backs up the appearance of McNaughton, so there must be something in it. The SP mentions no centre in their written account, so there are no clues there. We speculate wildly, but perhaps McNaughton was a war-time alias for Harris for some reason? Further, we note that the SP only writes Harris, with no initial. Both Joe and Neil are registered Jags this term, although neither has featured so far. Joe is very unlikely to be played at centre-forward, so we stick with Neil in the meantime, but, overall, further clarification is required on this one. We note that Harris was fined the maximum £3 (£300 today) by The Glasgow Munitions Board in April 1918 for bad time-keeping at his work in a Glasgow shipyard, and it was reported in several papers that he had been suspended by the club who, it was reported, would not tolerate bad timekeeping. This would be the first game back since that suspension.
