The report was of the opinion that the Directors had taken a bold decision to play virtually a reserve XI risking an infringement of the rules and a fine that teams must play their strongest team unless a satisfactory explanation is given. (In this case a Cup replay 2 nights later!)

Thistle started with 9 reserves yet the had the best of the chances and hit the bar early on. Celtic broke away and opened the scoring then it was 2-0 at half-time - but not before Thistle had gone close twice more. After Celtic's 3rd, Thistle hit the bar twice. They were excellent in midfield but couldn't find the net.
