Thistle almost took the lead when a shot was headed off the line. Curran headed over a Sommen cross. Kennedy went close but 2 errors by Howden led to Celtic scoring twice. In the second half Thistle were “clearly the better team“ (GH) but the forwards weren't up to the task. A better performance however.

Counter attractions in the city had an effect on the “gate” at Parkhead. Glasgow, on Saturday when these teams met in the semi-final of the Glasgow Cup. Celtic kicked off and were round Howden at once, but the visitors offered a sturdy resistance, and Sommen breaking away, play was carried to the other end, where the Celtic defence was kept busy for some time.

The Thistle played a surprising game against their more fancied opponents and more than once almost scored. At last the Celtic scored, and that luckily, Somers slipping the ball into the net from a scrimmage. This success gave the Celtic more confidence, and a second point quickly followed, when Black, picking up a weak return, beat Howden from twenty yards out. From that until half-time the Thistle had all the game, but score they could not. Half-time:- Celtic, two goals; Partick Thistle, nothing.

The second half was much a repetition of the first, except that there was no further scoring. The Thistle more than held their own in the open, but when near goal failed miserably. Kennedy and Sommen were always dangerous, but were well watched by Young and Orr. All over the Celts had an off-day, and had the Partick forwards been more deadly near goal they might have reversed the score. Result:- Celtic, two goals; Partick Thistle, nothing.
