notes
  • Teamlines per MBH which shows three unexpected Jags in the line-up in Reid, T. McAllister and Ward. We're taking the curator's punt that “Reid” in goals is William Reid [i] filling in for some reason. It's purely a guess, but he was there in all the games leading up as well as all the games following on, so it seems natural. Losing 4 in the first half supports the theory, and there was no other registered Reid in the squad. Outfield players standing in as goalie had died out, but was fairly common in the not too distant past. “T. McAllister” seems a mystery. No player of that name registered, so possibly a trialist from the juniors or such-like, perhaps even a brother of Alex. There's no specific evidence for it, but we're saying “Ward” is William Ward enjoying a bit of recreation. Ok, he hadn't played for 4 and a half years, but he was still only 27. He was very much at the heart and soul of the day-to-day running of the club, so could easily put himself up for it. Another key factor is that he was still fit enough to run as a linesman and did so at our high profile Scottish Cup game vs. Dundee in February 1907. If anyone has any info which contradicts our educated guesswork then please do get in touch!
