The Linthouse opened the season last night with a friendly match against the Partick Thistle on Govandale Park. When Linthouse kicked off there would be fully 1,000 spectators. The opening exchanges were almost wholly in favour of the ground team, who outplayed the Thistle at all points. In 15 minutes they had scored three goals through McNeish, Maxwell and Pearson. An accident to McDiarmid compelled him to leave the field for a little, when he returned he was still lame. Beyond a few sporadic attempts to reduce the odds against them, the Thistle never looked really dangerous. Before half-time Linthouse had added other two goals, McNeish and McIntosh being the scorers. Half-time- Linthouse, 5 goals; Partick Thistle, 0. Shortly after resuming further disaster befell the Thistle: Faulds being injured, was compelled to retire. As the Thistle were without McDiarmid, who did not return after the interval, the game continued painfully one-sided, so much so, that the homesters placed other three goals to their credit. The winners individually, and as a team, played well, while the losers, save Duncan, and to a lesser degree Auchenloss, played very inferior football. Result – Linthouse, 8 goals; Partick Thistle, 0.
